Queensland's best-kept secret is out of the bag: the Western Downs is the place to live! Be part of a team that make a real difference to the Communities they serve.
About Council
Western Downs is a diverse region at the forefront of the changing world. The Council is a sustainable organisation delivering modern and quality essential services to around 35,000 residents and manage Australia's second largest road network of over 10,000 km, an extensive water, gas, and sewage network, and one of Australia’s largest cattle saleyards. WDRC remains one of the few debt-free Local Governments in Queensland and their commitment to responsible financial management means they can proactively invest in new capital projects and infrastructure to grow the region.
With a $177.8M operating budget and $73M Capital expenditure WDRC is a significant local economic driver.
The Position
In this newly created role, you will report to the GM Infrastructure, and oversee the execution of vital infrastructure projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory standards. As a key leader in the organisation, you will shape a collaborative, high-performing culture while driving innovation, strategic planning, and continuous improvement in project delivery for the community. You will confidently lead a talented team of 7, and external consultants when required, guiding them to successfully deliver a diverse range of projects while fostering growth and development.

About You
This is a unique opportunity for someone eager to take the next step in their career and to deliver true business impact. Regarded as a confident leader you enjoy influencing and motivating project teams. Tertiary qualified in project management or with demonstrated experience, you are probably working for a tier one construction company on public infrastructure projects or working in LG and keen to further leverage your skills and experience. Regardless, you have a strong understanding of managing contracts and what to look for to ensure ‘on time’ completion. Using your experience to make a difference to a community will excite you as will escaping the sometimes-brutal world of private enterprise where there is little security personally or professionally and where work/life balance is hard to achieve.
You will share Council’s vision and will be driven to deliver on their commitment to providing value for the community across all projects and to having an increased focus on planning for their long-term needs and for coordinating the delivery and ongoing management of services, infrastructure, and facilities.
Managing and leading the further development and implementation of best practice processes, procedures, and systems – your comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements in the building and construction industry and project management will be underpinned by experience in strategic planning and the establishment of monitoring and reporting systems. You are financially savvy with budgets and well informed about modern technology.
Why this Role?
Queensland's best-kept secret is out of the bag: the Western Downs is the place to live! Whether it is for the work opportunities or the lifestyle, this region had one of the highest growth rates in Queensland - and it is not hard to see why. With a welcoming atmosphere, country charm, affordable cost of living, and a wide range of facilities, the Western Downs really does offer the complete package to residents.
The diversity of the operation and projects is substantial and will provide a springboard to enhance your future career prospects. This is a great region in Queensland for families to feel safe and to enjoy every advantage of living in and experiencing life outside of a capital city. With an airport, hospital, private and public schools, and every other facility you may require – you can truly have the experience of a lifetime both personally and professionally.
Need to be convinced? Well, would you rather be surrounded by bottle trees - or traffic lights? Walk to work - or commute for more than an hour?
Be part of a team that make a real difference within the communities across this region!
A Salary of up to $193K + super and provision of landing pad accommodation (until you find something suitable with the assistance of Council) and relocation assistance will be offered to the successful candidate.
